Our Saugerties, New York Workshop is the Epicenter of
the SPECTOR® Universe. It is here that Stuart
Spector works every day to bring you the best
hand-made guitars in the world. |
Every day Stuart Spector and a small handful of
dedicated Master Craftsmen make their way to a
modest-looking commercial building just outside of
Woodstock, in peaceful Saugerties, New York. What takes place inside
that building is old-world woodworking artistry.
Every day these men make what many consider to be
the finest hand-made stringed electric musical
instruments in the world.
Because our Workshop
is not open to the public we have decided to post
some photos of our guitar building process that have
never been seen before here on our website. We hope you enjoy this
simple tour. |

Wood is prepped and pressed, depending on the final
application. Our 3-piece necks and our Exotic
Top bodies all have to be bonded together before the
guitars can be built. |
Wood for our solid-wing AAAA Maple NS-Body™ guitars
is taken and cut into the rough forms for the upper
and lower wings. |
Once the rough cut is done, the finer shaping of the
wings, which gives our NS-Body™ guitars their
special body curve is done. |
Necks are measured, cut, measured, sanded and
measured again. This process will continue
until the necks have the appropriate shape and their
measurements are precisely perfect. |
The necks are taken and the fingerboards are set,
the neck inlays are cut and inserted and the frets
are carefully set by hand using a special press
which has a torque feature allowing just the right
amount of pressure to be used in setting the frets
into place. |

The wings are then fine shaped, sanded and prepped
for the bonding process with the neck. |
Over the years the bonding materials have greatly
improved, but we still use the same setting
techniques that have we've used for decades.
The new bonding epoxies create seams which are
stronger than the wood around them. This
means that you are more likely to break your guitar
in a several event in any number of places except
where the wings are bonded to the body. |
One the bonding is set the fine shaping of the body
to give it the feel of a single piece of wood is
completed and the bridge, pickup and control
cavities are routed. From there the guitars
are finished with stains, colored paint, whatever
was ordered. |
Once the finish work is done each guitar get its
hardware, electronics and is setup and tested.
Adjustments are made if needed. |
Once Stuart has approved the guitar for shipping to
its new owner, the last thing he does is sign the
headstock. This signature is HIS stamp of
approval and it lets the new owner know that they
have received a genuine/authentic

The finished guitar is then carefully packed in its
case and then placed into a Styrofoam padded
shipping carton specifically designed to provide
maximum protection to the new guitar and case as it
is shipped to its final destination. |
