AS ONE OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF

Ian
Hill is a founding member and Grammy Award®
winning bassist for the Birmingham,
England-based heavy metal band, Judas
Priest.
Ian
learned how to play the double bass from his
father, a bass player for local jazz acts in
England. His father died when he was only
fifteen. Ian's father's influence
instilled in Ian
his love of the bass. This influence would be
Ian's
foundation for years to come.
In
1970, together with schoolmate K.K. Downing,
Ian
went off to form pioneering heavy metal band
Judas Priest. He has been playing bass for
the band ever since and has witnessed the
band achieve platinum-covered status around
the world.
Ian
is known for his solid and melodic bass
playing, which proved to be the ideal
background for the dual guitars of K. K.
Downing and Glenn Tipton and Rob Halford's
operatic vocals. During the early years of
the band, he played bass finger-picking
syle, but in the band's later years he has
played with a pick. |

Ian Hill is also
responsible for finding the singer for Judas
Priest, Rob Halford. He met him while he was
dating Halford's sister and mentioned that
he needed a new vocalist for his band.
Halford accepted leaving his band
'Hiroshima'. |
In late
1985 Ian Hill acquired his first
SPECTOR®
bass, a gloss black
USA Series
NS-2™. He's been playing it as his main
guitar every since.
We've carefully measured Ian's vintage
NS-2™ and used these measurements to create
the IAN HILL SIGNATURE BASS™. This Euro
Series™ bass was developed with a somewhat
thinner neck.
The neck is graphite
reinforced 3 ply Rock Maple with a 24 fret
34" scale rosewood fret board and Mother of
Pearl inlays.
The hardware is gold
and includes the
SPECTOR® LOCKING
BRIDGE™ and Schaller tuners and straplocks.
The fully carved body is made up of
alder with a soft maple top finished in
solid high gloss black.
Electronics include active EMG™ P & J pickups
and the Spector TonePump™ EQ circuit. |
